For a lot of us, it can feel uncomfortable as we practice self-care in addiction recovery. We’ve spend so much time abusing our bodies, negatively talking to ourselves, and hanging out with guilt and shame that we don’t believe we deserve love from anyone, let alone ourselves. Meetings, meetings and more meetings! Love yourself enough to get to a meeting. This is self-care in its truest form.
Find a creative outlet: Dance. Paint. Color. Sing. Basket weave! We’re all creative in some way or another. Find what you like to do and do it up!
Laugh and let go of things that are not in your control: Remember not to take things so seriously and let God handle what you can’t.
Read, write and rejuvenate: Pen to paper and reading stories of hope can always rejuvenate our souls.
By taking little steps each day, we can begin understand the importance of self-care in addiction recovery. Our recovery depends on it and we’re worth it!
